Production of cars fitted with automatics in Western Europe jumps to 3.5m units in 2007

Last year, a record one-in-four of the cars made in Western Europe came equipped with an automatic transmission, boosting the annual number of two-pedal cars built in the region to a new historic high of 3.5 million cars. This uninterrupted expansion, adding up to a near full percentage point of market share, was due chiefly to the pioneering product action of one manufacturer, which in turn is now reaping the benefits of past technological research and innovation.
