Porsche plans to launch 4-cylinder versions of next generation Boxter/Cayman cars, AID has learnt. Porsche, Germany's headstrong and determined manufacturer of high-image big-muscle prestige cars, compelled by strong allround pressure to improve sharply the fleet-average CO{sub}2 emission levels of its cars, is planning to develop its next generation Boxster and Cayman sports cars with a significantly more fuel economical 4-cylinder engine, according to people familiar with the company's future product plans. The most likely engine to be picked, AID has learnt, will be the cutting-edge 2.0 litre TFSI engine that already serves in today's Audi TTS, where the direct injection turbo develops a mighty 272PS.
