摘要

The chemokine receptor CCR5 is the main co-receptor for macrophage-tropic HIV-1 strains, which are responsible for virus transmission and predominate during the asymptomatic phase of the disease . This has been demonstrated by the almost complete resistance of individuals homozygous for a 32-base pair (bp) deletion in the coding region of the receptor (CCR5A32). Other natural genetic variants of the CCR5 coding region or promoter have been described that modulate HIV-1 disease progression or the function of the receptor .
