New generation 48 Volt cutting-edge Mercedes petrol and diesel engines ready to pounce next year

More powerful, more fuel economical and cleaner. These were the prime objectives for a new conventionally powered range of Mercedes engines which have been designed down to the very last detail to meet today's and tomorrow's demands from customers and legislators alike, particularly on the critical issues of tough future emissions and fuel-economy limits. These new state-of-the-art engines - made up of a new 4-cylinder petrol unit, new petrol and diesel fuelled 6-cylinder in-line engines and to crown it all, a new biturbo V8 - will first enter service next year. The first member of this all-new engine family, the new OM 654 4-cylinder diesel, already went on sale earlier this year in Mercedes' new E-Class.
