Good August, up 10.7%, keeps car market on track for best turnout since 2009

Businesses and the wider private car buying public in Western Europe are continuing to buy new cars at the highest rate for more than half a decade - pointing once more to a potentially lasting breakthrough on both the business and consumer confidence front. West Europe's August car sales soared by 10.7 per cent to 709,000 units, in one of the strongest increases this year. The double-digit rise in sales resulted in the third successive uplift in the region's underlying trend rate. The second double-digit rise in the past three months - the 24th successive car sales rise in a row - brings the cumulative car sales total to 8.7m after 8-months, up 8.5 per cent over last year's comparative total.
