After a notable loss of stored up heat in the world's luxury car market, Audi narrowly avoided the upset of finding itself outsold globally by hard-pushing Mercedes during this year's first half. But today's high-flying Mercedes car division, after cutting Audi's volume sales lead to less than 4,000 units at this year's halfway stage, scored a spirit-boosting victory nevertheless by narrowly outperforming the brand with the four rings with a superior 2nd quarter and first-half profit margin.
