UAE’S GALV CAPACITY UP 80% SINCE 2106, EXPANSION TO CONTINUE

Active development of UAE’s infrastructure secures stable demand for various steel products, including coated flats. According to the Metal Expert database, since 2016, UAE have raised its galvanizing capacity by 80% to 1.02 million tpy. Even so, next year will bring more new capacities, including those in pre-painted steel segment. Capacity growth is backed up by both existing plant expansion and entering of the new producers. In September 2016, Al Ghurair Iron & Steel (AGIS) commissioned its 200,000 tpy HDG line No.2 at the plant in Industrial City Abu Dhabi (ICAD 1) in Abu Dhabi. As a result, the producer has raised it capacity to 470,000 tpy, extended gauge range from 0.3 mm-2.5 mm to 0.18-2.5 mm with width of 650-1,250 mm and started offering more options for surface quality. Belgium’s CMI supplied the equipment.
