Picking the eventual turn in fortunes is never easy. Russia's recession-gripped car market, after shrinking for 35 out of the past 37 months, started the current year with sales continuing to head into the long-familiar downward direction. But those looking closer at very latest figures couldn't fail but detect the first faint glimmer of hope. Coming in the wake of a near one third plunge in January, February sales fell just 14.4 per cent. This marks the lowest rate of contraction for 13 months, kindling hope that at long last the worst could well be over.
