Chemical induction of male sterility in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

摘要

The efficacy of ethrel [ethephon] (100, 200 or 300 ppm) and gibberellic acid (400, 800 or 1200 ppm) in the induction of pollen sterility in rice cultivars Ratnagiri-24 and Palghar-1 was evaluated in Dapoli, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India, during the kharif of 2007. Ethrel or gibberellic acid was applied as foliar sprays at the booting stage. The level of pollen sterility increased as the rates of ethrel and gibberellic acid increased. Ethrel was more effective in the induction of pollen sterility than gibberellic acid. The greatest pollen sterility was recorded for Palghar-1 treated with 3000 ppm ethrel (51.28%). Ethrel at 3000 ppm resulted in the greatest pollen sterility in Ratnagiri-24 (47.19%).
