MACRO photography can make the familiar look alien. This is particularly true when working with subjects in the natural world. Through a macro lens, those seemingly innocuous dandelion clocks that pepper your lawn take on the appearance of an incredible abstract landscape. Eighteen-year-old Jack Hood has made a bit of name for himself on various online forums, particularly AP's monthly forum competition, where he was awarded first place in July for his shot 'Sky Blue Drops' (see page 21). Jack's masterfully executed photographs feature the kind of vivid colours, sharp focus and beautiful lighting that would make anyone practising macro photography green with envy.
