IN THE early 1930s, Elizabeth 'Lee' Miller pursued the artist Man Ray until he finally accepted her under his tutelage. The two lived together in Paris where they quickly became lovers and began to inspire one another's work. Miller's role was initially that of Ray's muse, although she quickly became a creative force in her own right, and this period of the artists' lives produced some of the most fascinating and important work of their careers.
