On the 27th April, 2018, the EU Parliament made history by extending the controversial 2014 ban of neonico-tinoid pesticides, based on the threat they pose to pollinators. The decision pleased environmental groups but was greeted with trepidation by farming associations, which fear economic harm.This removes the widely used neuro-toxic pesticides (imidadoprid, dothianidin and thiamethoxam) from general agricultural and horticultural use, following a 24 year long, bitterly fought campaign against the pesticide industry.
