Welding of laser-sintered PA12 plastic components, Part 2 - Heated tool welding

In a recently concluded research project, the welding behaviour of laser-sintered; (LS) plastic components made of Poiyamide 12 was investigated at the South German Plastics Centre (SKZ) in Wurzburg. Ultrasonic welding and heated tool welding which are both suitable for small-scale series production and differ with regard to their energy inputs were utilised in this respect. Analyses were made not only of the variation of the welding parameters but also of the influences of various construction directions of the LS components as well as of laser sintering process parameters on the welding processes and the weld strengths.
