Oh what a month of August it has been as your President of the OSMA. Not only did we finally close the PLICO sale (the actual stock transfer was completed September 1, 2015), I also traveled across Oklahoma to welcome many of the new medical students and residents in our state. I was fortunate enough to be asked by OU Medical School Dean Dewayne Andrews, MD, to speak at the OU College of Medicine White Coat ceremony. This provided me a unique opportunity to address approximately 160 new MS-1 students and their families about the joys of practicing medicine. I also attended the first year medical student orientation picnic and presented some remarks along with OSMA Presidentelect Sherri Baker, MD, OSMA's first and only AMA Board of Directors Member Mary Anne McCaffree, MD, and OSMA's Director of Legislative and Political Affairs, Wes Glinsmann about how they can meaningfully participate in OSMA and be active in organized medicine. I also attended a Tulsa County Medical Society sponsored picnic at the Tulsa Zoo, a joint gathering of medical students and residents from both OU and OSU Medical School campuses. What a great opportunity to celebrate a milestone of bringing these campuses and students together.
