As the UN climate conference (COP25) in Madrid wrapped up tough negotiations in Madrid late last week, Article 6 of the 2015 Paris Agreement was still hanging in the balance. That provision sets out rules for international carbon trading, which the aviation sector has pioneered through the UN's International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO is finalizing the rules for how its carbon offsetting mechanism will work in practice with a decision due in March, 2020 (JFI Oct.7’19).
