Oil prices stalled despite a requirement that Opec-plus members that fell short of their agreed production cuts in May, June and July to implement additional “catch-up” cuts of over 2.3 million barrels per day by the end of September to help clear the market overhang. An Opec Secretariat document seen by Energy Intelligence identified the biggest overproducers as Iraq, Nigeria, Russia and Kazakhstan with the producer group also recognizing that global oil demand is recovering far more slowly from Covid-19 than previously expected. International benchmark Brent shed 6¢ per barrel over the week to close at $44.90 per barrel Thursday, while US domestic price pin West Texas Intermediate (WTI) edged 34¢/bbl higher to settle at $42.58/bbl.
