At present, the treatment of allergy may be characterized as follows: 1) new products must offer significant advantages over currently marketed therapies and satisfy unmet needs to attain commercial success; 2) currently, immunotherapy (sublingual [SLIT] or specific [SIT]) is the only nonsymptomatic treatment available; and 3) despite access to effective symptomatic drugs, many allergic patients are not well controlled.
