Regulatory Framework of Continuing Medical Education for Emergency Physicians in Germany

As in all other areas of medicine, the state of the art in technology and science, methods and treatment strategies are constantly evolving in emergency medicine. In the interest of team co-operation in emergency medicine, we must not only focus on good basic training for emergency physicians, but also keep their skills up to date. While in some European countries continuous further training and regular recertification are mandatory conditions for working in the emergency medical service, in Germany it is often sufficient to have acquired the emergency medical qualification once in order to serve in the emergency medical service lifelong. The aim of the present study is to analyse which legislative requirements there are for emergency medical training and how it is to be financed.
