Animal Models That Elucidate Basic Principles of the Developmental Origins of Adult Diseases

Sub-optimal environments, in the womb and during early neonatal life alter development and predispose the individual to life long health problems. The developmental origins of adult diseases concept is supported by compelling animal studies that using specific exposures such as nutrient restriction, over-feeding during pregnancy, maternal stress and exogenously administered glucocorticoids. The path-ophysiological outcomes to the various challenges show both similarities and differences.
