THE PARNELL FAMILY of Stanton, Ala., has been logging in a sustainable manner since the late 1800s and has passed on a passion for good stewardship of forest resources from generation to generation. James Parnell continued the family tradition in 1961when, at the age of 16, he inherited a chainsaw, a team of mules, a bobtail truck and commitment to market timber products for his neighbors. Since then, James and his wife, Sandra, have built a family business and raised four children—a daughter, Amy(now a CPA), and sons Jimmy, Jeff and Joseph—each sharing in the responsibility of growing the family timber business.
