Linking Biodiversity Research and Policy in Europe

Science-policy interfaces, whether they be in the area of biodiversity loss, climate change, or other areas of environmental and societal concern, can play a key role in the future of environmental governance (15, 17). If they are open to learn from existing experiences and overcome the inherent difficulties, they can indeed bridge the gap between science and policy (18). The plurality and variety of science-policy interfaces is likely to grow, but new initiatives should strive to learn from experience.
