For their auxiliary effects, adjuvants are added to vaccines to further stimulate the innate immune response involved in the specific immune response activation. Commonly used adjuvants include oil emulsions and aluminium salts. Additionally, saponin and cytokines are gaining increased interest for use as adjuvants.
