RIDING THROUGH THE FORESTS

Traveling the country with my horse and dog in order to ride through the forest is something I enjoy. So do so many other people - I am not alone in this hobby. Trail riding is an increasingly popular sport that rivals hiking, biking, and hunting as arecreational use of forests.Twenty years ago I wrote an article for this magazine about developing horse trail systems on TREASURE Forests (see "A TREASURE Teaches Lessons," Alabama's TREASURED Forests, Spring 1995, p. 4). Since then, we have continued to host trail rides and manage the trail system on the McConnell and Willis family TREASURE Forests, but two big changes have come along the way.
