FSRUs Let LNG Buyers Feed on Glut

A few years back, no one would talk to Central American gas buyers. But the tiny market of El Salvador ran a recent LNG tender and got 25 proposals — a testament to the way floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) are thriving in an otherwise challenging global market. Esteban Papanicolau, executive director of Houston-based LNG project developer Gas Porto International, said he expects El Salvador's FSRU to be operational by 2020, taking advantage of the buyers' market created by a global gas glut expected to last well into next decade.
