Hungary Sets Up More EU Road Blocks

Eastern and Central Europe remain the biggest obstacle to EU plans to liberalize gas markets and develop pipeline interconnections. Poland already stands accused of trying to preserve the monopoly of state-owned oil and gas company PGNIG (WGI Jul.26'17). Hungary has now created waves after blocking a pipeline link to Austria that would have allowed Black Sea gas to flow to Western Europe via the so-called ROHUAT pipeline, a joint project planned with Romania and Austria.
