CURRENT China Still Leads World on Renewables

China's power consumption rose at its fastest rate in seven years in 2018, even though economic growth was the slowest since 1990 (WGI Jan.23'19). Electricity demand increased by 8.5%, with much of the growth coming from industry and manufacturing — including traditional heavy industries that are energy-intensive and polluting — which benefited from a government economic stimulus package.
