Eighteen selected wheat genotypes, including 10 F3 and 3 F5 lines of crosses between Yecora Rojo and local Saudi Arabian lines, were evaluated for 8 characters under 2 sowing dates and 3 irrigation treatments at Deirab in 1995-96. Significant variations due to heat and drought stress were found for almost all characters studied. Delayed sowing had a more pronounced effect on grain filling than on vegetative period, and had an overall stronger influence on grain yield than the irrigation regime. A few promising lines with reduced growth period and higher heat and drought resistance were identified.
