In December 2006, a Bell 412SP EMS helicopter was destroyed and the pilot and two medical crewmembers on board perished when the aircraft impacted the side of a ridgeline during conditions of darkness and reduced visibility due to fog. They had just delivered a patient to a hospital in central California and were returning to their base through a narrow mountain pass when the accident occurred.
