Comparative study to the effect of whole barley flour, germinated barley grain and talbina on blood lipids in cholesterolemic rats. [Arabic]

This research aims to study the effect of whole grain barley, germinated barley powder and talbina on blood lipids levels in hypercholestrolemic rats. White albino Rats (Sperigue dawley) weighed (220-250 gm) were divided into two groups, First group (6) rats was fed on standard diet, second group (30) rats was fed on high cholesterol diet for nine weeks, The rats all cholostrolemic groups were fed on high cholesterol diet during experimental period (five weeks). The cholestrolimic rats were divide into five groups one positive group was fed on high cholesterol and four experimental groups. 1. group was fed on whole grain barley flour diet, 2. group was fed on germinated barley powder diet, 3. group was fed on the same cholesterol diet plus drinking talbina (30 gm/1000 ml water), (4) groups fed on cooked whole barley flour. Blood analysis showed not only a decrease in total cholesterol, TG, LDL, VLDL as well as other atherosclerosis index but also increase in HDL. Decrease AST, ALT, and urea were also produced. The liver analysis showed a decreasing in cholesterol and triglycerides. The results indicated that barley feeding especially talbina produced good results in blood and liver data.
