The neoformation dynamics of 1-4 androstadiene 3-17 dione (ADD), 4-androstene 3-17 dione (AED), alpha -boldenone ( alpha -Bol), beta -boldenone ( beta -Bol), testosterone (testo) and epitestosterone (Epitesto) in calf faeces during natural drying with and without the addition of phytosterols were determined. Faecal samples collected in winter (A) and summer (B) were treated or not with beta -sitosterol at 1.5 mg/g. The samples were dried in cowsheds and analysed at 0, 4 and 11 days (A) and at 0, 2, 5, 8 and 11 days (B) using solid phase extraction. It was shown that there was a time-dependent increase in alpha -Bol, AED, ADD and Epitesto concentrations. AED in A and all steroids in B were not detected on day 0. Neoformation was more noticeable in B. beta -Bol was detected on days 0 and 4 in A but was totally absent on day 13 in A and B. Testo was not found in any sample. These results show that neoformation of anabolic steroids occurs in calf faeces during drying..
