Perhaps the most noticeable effect of the EU regulatory strategy on veterinary antibiotics over recent years for veterinary practitioners has been the introduction of more comprehensive product warnings and more specific usage instructions, There hasalso been increased communications regarding antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as well as enhanced monitoring of antibiotic consumption in the Union. Less well known has been the review and enhancement of EU regulatory guidelines that set out the requirements for new antibiotics, as well as the conduct of a feasibility analysis on the use of computer modelling to drive optimised dosages for older antibiotics. During this period, work began on the elaboration of new legislative controls while national and international efforts to ensure responsible use of antibiotics have intensified.
