The market for trailers and truck bodies soars in Brazil

Brazil - On the back of a strong heavy truck and tractor unit market, the semi-trailer, drawbar trailer and truck body builders enjoyed high demand in the first half of the year. Sales in Brazil of trailers and semi-trailers of all types grew by 79.7% to register 19,415 units (10,802) compared with 10,812 in the first half of 2017. Dry van trailer sales is the biggest segment in Brazil and its numbers more than doubled with 4,889 units being registered against 2,395 the year before. This trailer type dominance is a reflection of the same pattern perhaps in the North American market but is in stark contrast to Europe where curtainsiders at over 37% account for more than a third of trailer sales annually. However, tarpaulin-covered/curtainsider trailers account for fewer than 10% of the market in Brazil; never-the-less this segment, also enjoyed strong growth of 126.9% to register 1,661 units (732) in the first half of 2018.
