Brazilian engine manufacturers optimistic for increased production in 2017

Brazil - Macro-economic indicators pointing to a modest improvement in GDP, together with the closure of new contracts, suggest that both MWM and Cummins Brasil, two of the country's largest independent engine builders, are expecting a better year in terms of sales. Thomas Puschel, director of sales and marketing and parts at MWM Motores Diesel, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Navistar Group), suggests the division's truck and bus and agricultural machinery engine production for the Brazilian market should reach 12,000 units, an increase of 5% compared with 2016. Puschel therefore is only expecting a modest recovery at best in demand for commercial vehicle engines with the bulk of the growth being attributable to the replacement market.
