Advances in Actros ADAS system offers improved safety

Germany - Continuous development in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aboard the Mercedes-Benz Actros has led to improved safety, Daimler AG announced last month. Sideguard Assist, available since 2016 and which minimises the probability of serious accidents on the co-driver's side of the truck when the vehicle turns to the right (in Europe)/left in UK (and other RHD countries), has now been revised and improved for the digital future of truck. Warnings issued by Sideguard Assist in the Actros were shown previously in the form of an LED light display on the A-pillar in the cab. In New Actros, Sideguard Assist now uses the MirrorCam display to warn drivers visually when the system detects a moving or stationary object in the monitored zone. The system can warn drivers in good time by use of the monitor about the presence of cyclists or pedestrians, they may not have seen. MirrorCam and Sideguard Assist thus now work hand-in-hand and go towards preventing overloading the driver with warning information, as they are now grouped together in a single cluster.
