Ely's Southern Bypass will allow traffic to avoid a notorious bottleneck where traffic delays can last for hours. Close to Ely railway station the A412 crosses the Ely to Cambridge mainline at two points. At one, the road passes beneath a very low bridge (pictured) which, according to Network Rail figures, is the most frequently hit railway bridge in Britain.
