On the one hand we are exhorted to reduce the amount of travel in pursuit of the holy grail of 'net zero' while on the other, the country is hell bent on a massive programme of road and rail investment in order to improve 'connectivity' across the country. As any transport engineer knows, improving connectivity causes increased travel demand. Rather than 'connectivity' should we not be promoting 'self containment'?
