Britain has too many railway stations and some of the lesser used halts should close, a senior executive in the sector has remarked. Jeremy Long of rail operator MTR Corporation's European business and the stations lead for the Rail Delivery Group told a seminar last month: "I think we have too many stations; we have 500 stations in the country with fewer than 50 users a day. Can we justify that; is it value for money?"
