MANAGING TREES ft CINSTRUCTIGN: DEFENDING THE TREE PRITECTIVE ZINE

Every arboricultural professional who works in an urban environment where development activity is prevalent hopefully is familiar with tree-protection zones, or TPZs. These are typically fenced-off areas on construction sites explicitly designated toprotect and preserve trees being retained on a development parcel. The focus of these protection efforts is primarily the critical root zone within the driplines of the trees. The objective is to avoid soil disturbance and compaction around the roots and damage to trunks and branches by excluding foot and equipment traffic as well as material storage.
