Safety Lanyards for Tree Climbers

Iust the other day I was flipping through my stack of arborist sup-ply catalogs when I got to the section on lanyards. There were eight, sometimes 10, pages devoted to nothing but positioning lanyards and their components. It blew my mind how many ' options are currently available for the climbing arborist. How could someone ever decide which one to use? I'll try to provide some information here to help with that decision, but much of this depends on the climber's intended application and the predominant tree species he/she will be working with.
