摘要

People, in general, don't often notice trees. It's lamentable, but true. Non-arborists not only fail to observe trees, but many also forget to look up. An inward and downward preoccupation tends to hold a person's attention most of the time. Even those of us whose lives revolve around trees should not consider ourselves to be exempt from this descendent gaze.As a commercial arborist, I am all too familiar with the mindset of production, efficiency and profitability that can totally blind us to simple beauty and joy in daily life and hold our focus hostage. So, unfortunately, trees often go unnoticed until they cause personal inconvenience or discomfort. People need to be taught to value trees, which means that someone needs to speak for them. As arborists, we feel that obligation, but isn't it refreshing when folks outside our profession speak up as well? I had a recent, real-life example of this mindset near where I live in Idaho.
