Application of a portable microscopic cell counter for the counting of residual leukocytes in leukoreduced apheresis platelet concentrates in a hospital blood bank

While a portable microscopic cell counter has been evaluated to enumerate residual white blood cells (WBCs) in red blood cells and platelet concentrates at blood centers, it has not yet been assessed in a hospital blood bank. We investigated the performance of this device and evaluated its accuracy, along with its benefits in time management.
