A taxonomic revision of the cosmopolitan leafhopper subfamily Coelidiinae Dohrn sensu lato with a historical review of attendant taxa and phylogeny (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae)

In this revision, 19 major characters with 149 attendant character states among a maximum of 324 exemplars (genera and species) of 11 tribes assigned in the leafhopper subfamily Coelidiinae sensu lato are described, assessed and collated. All taxa were evaluated for their delineating taxonomic features. Results of these assessments are provided for the following taxonomic groups: tribes, type-genera, type-species and numerous supplemental genera and species across six biogeographical regions. A history of nomenclature usages and classifications are given to document the unstable systematics that has been nearly continuous from the time of inception to the present. A historical review of phylogeny of the subfamily Coelidiinae sensu lato is also provided.
