Surfex might not generally enjoy the same level of investment as the European Coatings Show or Chinacoat and so there tends to be fewer targeted product launches and not so many eye-catching and unusual stands by comparison. Although it's sold as a trade show, it's more about networking than it is about dealmaking, with many exhibitors from those who supply the industry meeting their clients to catch up every two years. Nevertheless, in the context of the UK-which is still a pretty sizeable coatings market-Surfex represents the big wave that everyone in the industry wants to catch if they know what's good for their business. Moving to the Ricoh Arena, which was smaller but still had lots to offer to exhibitors and visitors alike, did not seem to be too much of a risk to take.
