Complete detoxification reaction by NO reduction with CO over nano-sized copper-substituted Cr2O3

Simultaneous detoxification of nitric oxide and carbon monoxide was investigated over fibrous pristine and copper-substituted Cr2O3 catalysts. Catalysts were synthesized using glycine combustion method. The prepared catalysts were characterized using X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectra, SEM-energy-dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy, XPS, H-2-temperature programmed reduction, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurement. Low concentration of Cu in Cr2O3 was found to improve the catalytic activity significantly. Cu substitution in Cr2O3 produced significant improvement in the catalytic activity for redox reactions studied. Stability and reproducibility of the catalysts were also investigated, which was found to show good stability and reproducibility of the catalyst.
