Walking is the most important type of movement in rural and urban Africa. Despite this fact, the highly car-friendly traffic infrastructures of African cities make it hard for pedestrians to get around comfortable and safely. Looking at Kenya revealsthat its pedestrians are the continent's most vulnerable in terms of road fatalities. Although the importance of pedestrian safety is receiving more attention with regard to urban mobility matters across the globe, the numbers of victims in Africa continues to rise. Our author Constant Cap reports from Kenya's capital Nairobi on the current situation for pedestrians.
