Iluka's synrutile output was again derived solely from operating its SR-2 kiln at the Capel North plant (30 km south of Bunbury). The SR-2 kiln has been operating at or beyond its 200,000 t.p.a. nameplate capacity onwards from Ql 2015, when it was reopened after a 21-month hiatus. Meanwhile, the SR-1 kiln at Capel North has been idled since May 2009 and the Narngulu synrutile plant, housing the SR-3 and SR-4 kilns, has remained closed since December 2012. During Ql 2019, the SR-2 kiln was closed for a planned major overhaul, which was completed within 45 days-six days earlier than originally scheduled. The kiln is now expected to run for a full campaign of four years, without any further maintenance outages.
