Reflecting the fact that Base Resources is now encountering lower ore grades, the company's unit operating costs have been more or less steadily rising. During 2015/16, they were typically within the range $US 84-93 per tonne of finished product in each quarter. During 2018/19, the range was $US 103-138 per tonne of finished product. Following the move to the South Dune, unit operating costs surged to $US 173 per tonne in Q3 2019. The upsurge was exacerbated by the significant drop in quarterly output levels. With higher output of all products in Q4 2019, unit operating costs subsided to $US 140 per tonne. Inevitably, because of the lower volumes of output from South Dune, the company's sales volumes have fallen, in comparison against previous years.
