MADAGASCAR: Base Resources Aims to Start Mining at Ranobe in 2022

Base Resources Ltd. (headquartered in East Perth, Australia) is planning to begin shipping mineral sands products from its Toliara Sands venture in southwestern Madagascar in December 2022. The venture is based on the Ranobe deposit, situated 55 km north of the regional port town of Toliara (a.k.a. Tulear), 18 km inland and 640 km southwest of Antanarivo (the national capital). By 2024, the company expects to be producing more than 800,000 t.p.a. of ilmenite and nearly 60,000 t.p.a. of zircon plus 6000 t.p.a. of rutile, generating annual revenues of around $US 250 million from Toliara Sands, of which 65% from ilmenite, 32% from zircon and 3% from rutile. There may also be a small revenue stream from sales of garnet.
