Venator Faces Lawsuits Filed by Suppliers & Investors Relating to the Pori Plant Fire

On 12 September 2018, Venator Materials announced that it had decided to permanently close its 130,000 t.p.a. sulfate-route TiO2 pigment plant in Finland before the end of 2021. (See also TiO2 Worldwide Update, Vol.26, no.2, pages 16-19). The plant was severely damaged by a fire that commenced in the early hours of the morning of 30 January 2017. It was partly repaired during H1 2017, but has been running at only 20% of its former finished pigment capacity since June 2017, producing RDI-S and other specialty grades only.
