GERMANY: Kronos Will shut Leverkusen Sulfate Pigment Plant by End-2020

Kronos Worldwide has announced its intention to shut down its sulfate-route TiO2 pigment plant at Leverkusen-Wiesdorf by the end of 2020. This will mean the loss of 90-100 jobs at the Kronos Leverkusen site, where the total workforce numbers 610 people. Sulfate-route pigment has been manufactured at the Peschstrasse site since 1927, when the first plant was established by Titangesellschaft, originally a 50:50 joint venture. In 1952, NL Industries (the predecessor of Kronos Titan) bought out the German partner's shareholding to take 100% control.
